Possibility to have the first Korean judge in Texas

Election of judges of a high court of Dallas County, which predicts the birth of the first Korean judge of Texas State, is only two months away.

Tina Yoo, who will have a round of a victory with Republican candidates on November 2, 2010, (Tuesday) will begin her campaign from September in a full scale for asking supports of Korean voters and other people.
Tina Yoo, who is a Democratic candidate, plans to secure her supporters strongly and to catch hearts of voters through campaigns with various routes including diverse events of churches and minorities within the election district.

This election, which begins officially on September 3, 2010 (Friday) with mailing of voters’ registration, will be carried out in division of the early voting period from October 18, 2010 (Monday) to October 29, 2010 (Friday) and main election on November 2, 2010. (Tuesday)

Since this election is an important election which requires victory or not with Republican candidates with participation of many voters unlike competition of candidates in Democratic Party, positive attention of Korean society is required.

Tina Yoo became a Democratic candidate by defeating competing candidates with overwhelming difference of 75% voting on competition vote for the election of judge of high court of Dallas Country on April 13, 2010. (Tuesday)

Tina Yoo was appointed as a Democratic candidate of judge of high court of Dallas County by winning in the second competition, which was required because the first voting did not have majority votes even though she won in the first voting with big difference of votes.

Tina Yoo obtained over 75% of overwhelming supports by obtaining 13700 votes out of total 19000 votes in the past candidate competition vote within Democratic party and among this, over 400 votes were supports of Korean voters.

Tina Yoo had to go into the second competition because she had to have 3% more according to the regulation requiring to satisfy over 50% of votes even though she won the first candidate competition for high court judge of Dallas County within the Democratic party, which was held on March 2, 2010 (Tuesday) by obtaining 47% of voting rate through acquisition of 19,677 votes out of total number of 42062 voters.

Moreover, among voters during the first candidate competition voting, Asians were only around 200 people and the number of Korean voters were even less but in the second candidate competition voting held in April, over 400 Korean voters participated and made foundation for Tina Yoo’s winning.

As it was estimated that voting rate will be poor in the second competition compared to the first competition, actual voting rate was only 1.7% but the participation rate of Korean voters was higher.

Tina Yoo is the first Korean to be officially confirmed as a candidate of criminal judge in high court of Dallas County.

As Tina Yoo was appointed as an official Democratic candidate of high court judge of Dallas County, it is expected that the election of judge on November 2, 2010 (Tuesday) will appear as the biggest matter of interest in Korean society.

If Tina Yoo wins in the competition with Republican candidate, Deandra Gran, she will become the first Korean judge not only in Dallas but also in the entire Texas State.  This is not only the first for Korean society but also is the first in total Asian communities.

The menu included the two popular Korean dishes "samgyetang" - steamed chicken soup stuffed with sticky rice and ginseng - and "maeuntang" - spicy seafood broth.
